Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Cohabitation

I am having problems finding where to register our agreement in the state of Minnesota. Ryan and I just want to be recognized as a couple without getting married. We might tie the knot later but this is how we like things now. There are no kids involved.

Re: Cohabitation

Thank you for the post.

Your post is confusing. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, there may be different documents to be drafted and filed. if your issues relate to financial issue, the proper agreement is a cohabitation agreement. It is not filed in any office or court. If your issues relate to children, the action is a paternity action and your agreements with regard to custody, parenting time and child support would be filed as part of a paternity case.

Each agreement requires certain formalities in order to be binding and enforceable.
