Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
Concerned Father
I have a 5-month old son. My fiance and I recently(a week ago) moved to Minnesota from California. She now says she is going to leave with my child and go back to California. The only reason being bugs and thunderstorms. I have been with her for a year and a 1/2, and for the past 9 months I have been supporting all of us. We agreed to move here because financially it was the wise thing to do. I have no place to go in California or money to go with. What are my rights?

Re: Concerned Father
If you have only been in Minnesota for a short period of time, you do not qualify as a Minnesota resident.
How long did you live in California? It may well be that if you have lived there for a long time (more than six months), California would be
the venue for any paternity/custody action.
Your case is pretty complicated. I suggest that you make an appointment with an attorney as soon as possible to discuss all of the nuances of your case.
I am in Mankato. If you are in the Mankato area, I invite you to make an appointment to see me. If you don't live in the Mankato area, check the yellow pages for a family law attorney. Don't delay.
