Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
What is considered abandonment of a child in MN? My boyfriend's 13 years old daughter has been left with her grandparents while her mother moved to Michigan in April 2015 and has only been back to visit once since then. She is still collecting child support on behalf of their daughter even though she isn't physically taking care of her. My boyfriend would have his daughter live with him but she doesn't want to leave her school district. We are looking for a place to live out by her school but he is paying over $600 a month in child support so we can't afford to get a place right now.

Hello. I suggest you reframe the problem. Is the problem that your BF wants to know how to stop child support? Does your BF want to simply live geograph'y closer to his little girl? Does your BF want legal guidance & counsel, want to know his options, rights, etc.? In my professional work, assuming your BF wanted such help, I likely would tell him of various options & possible scenarios or unfolding events & I would tell him what seemed the wisest path for him and his little girl.
Reading in between the lines, it is lovely that you know you can never get back the time lost with this little girl.
