Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Contempt of divorce court papers

I am writing to you today for advice on my exhusbands behavior. He is currently $2200 behind in child support to me. He continues to pay daycare late and now they only accept cash or money orders from him. He is in possession of two vehicles that are in my name and according to divorce papers he was supposed to refinance within a year of the final divorce. That has not happened. He has also chosen not to pay back the joint marital debt.

I am at my wits end and my divorce attorney will not assist me and I can not afford to hire a new attorney.

What are my options for collections from a self employed irresponsible exspouse?

Please advise appropriately.

Re: Contempt of divorce court papers

You would have to take your husband back to Court and ask that he be held in contempt. You could get the court to force him to follow through with his financial obligations, including the refinance. If he doesn't you can ask for the property to be sold or ask that a receiver be appointed to take care of it. Since he has cars and other assets, you could also attempt to have to court use those to help make up for the back support. You could also ask that his driver's license be suspended for non-payment of child support. I am in Bloomington, MN. If you want to discuss this further, please respond.
