Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Custody

My husbands daughter came to live with us when she was 3 from washington state. Her mother was living in a place unfit to raise a child in fact her brother came too he was older. Well to the point the boy is now 18 and the girl is 9. The mother over the years has had little contact with them now she is wanting custody. In their divorce there was no custody (it was joint) She lives on welfare as she has another daughter from another man and works part time. With the daughter here can she get custody even though the girl is very stable here and wants to be here. There is other circumstances to her being here also but will not go into that. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Re: Custody

She would have to take your husband to court here in Minnesota in order to try and enforce any custody or visitation rights. The child has been here over six months and Minnesota is the child's "home state." If you and your husband are interested, we offer a free initial consultation. Please call 952-746-4111 if you want to set up an appointment.
