Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

custody and visitation

How many times can a judge or the opposing counsel postpone court? I have people that are testifying and taking time away from work as well as myself, but the court changes the date monthly. Do I have any say on how much time this is taking? I live in a smaller community and there has been plenty of time for us to resolve this. The father is fighting for the use of his last name, but with every passing day her name is in her mothers last name. This is physically and emotionally as well as financially draining on my side. Is there any compensation I can ask my court appointed lawyer. I would like this over with and I want to raise my child in peace but the legal system will not let go and the father of the childs only vested interest is saving face and alittle money in taxes. Thank you.

Re: custody and visitation

Have you tried talking to your attorney about this? Usually an attorney can tell you ahead of time whether the case is likely to be continued or not.
