Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Divorce Child Custody

I received my petition for divorce yesterday and in it says joint legal and sole physical with reasonable visitation. It also says reasonable child support when we have already verbally agreed on an amount. Should I sign this petition with it being so vague? Is there any verbage between sole and joint? Am I bound to these terms if I sign the petition? Also, she wants to take her maiden name back and I dont know if I want that because of the kids. Thanks for your help!

Re: Divorce Child Custody

First of all, if you were served for a petition for divorce by your spouse, you sign nothing, Instead, you have thirty (30) days in which to file an answer. You should certainly not sign anything which indicates an agreement to terms that are not spelled out or agreeable.

Whether or not your wife's maiden name is restored is entirely up to her. You do not have a say on that issue.
