Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Divorce child support issue in the state of MN.

If my wife and I come to an agreement on a sum for support and it is less than state guidelines, doese this still have to go through the county? Can we have this put in the paperwork that we agree on the amount and will resolve any future adjustments as needed. We are trying to keep this as civil as possible and not to financially break either one of us. Thank you for your response.

Support Agreement

I am not familar with the laws of your jurisdiction. However, I do not believe it will be necessary to go through the court system. However, I suggest that you investigate to pay the support through the court system. That way both sides are protect and do not have to keep record of payments and have the right of enforcement in the event of a default. The procedure should be simple and I suggest you contact the proper court officials or seek the advice of local counsel.

Agreement and child support guidelines

You probably have to go to court and appear before a judge. The judgewill probably require compliance with the state child support guidelinesbut some judges may allow it without compliance.
