Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Divorce and the mortgage payments

My wife of 1 1/2 years wants a divorce. There has been no infidelity or anything of the sort. She just wasn't ready for marriage. She would like me to remain in the house WITH her and split the bills. this is too hard for me emotionally. She is unable to get a co-signer, and I don't want to pay the bills and not live there. She's telling me I have to ''live up to my resposibility''. She also doesn't want to sell the house and move. My question is, what are my options? If I leave and file bankruptcy, what would happen with the mortgage? both of our names are on it. Can I force her to sell? I'm just confused and I'm not sure what the best route is.

Thank you for the message.

It makes absolutely no sense to contimue residing in the same home or to divide bills afgter a divorce. Those attachments will undoubtedly create added tenmsion and a grave risk of conflict that could eventually result in expensive litigation.

Cut your ties but protect your interests. The Court will genberally require the home to be sold if one party cannot afford it and buy out the other party's equity.
