Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

divorce-real estate

I owned a house before getting married. Down payment of $25,000.00. I've been married five years. If I get divorced what financial claim will my husband have on this property?

Re: divorce-real estate

You may have a non-marital interest that has appreciated in value. For example, if the home was worth $100,000.00 on the date of the marriage, your non-marital interest would be 25% of the current value. You may not be entitled to 25% of the current value if there were substantial improvements made during the marriage which increased the value of the home. It will be important for you to be able to document your interest in the home before the marriage in order to claim your non-marital interest.
