Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Email privacy

I had suspected for a year and a half that my husband was having an email affair on the internet and had not know how far it had gone. Last week while I was on the computer my husband gave me his email box name and password to look something up for him. Since then I have checked his email box and this morning confirmed my suspicions. Upon telling him to remove himself from the house he informed me he was going to press charges against me for violating his privacy by going into his email account without his permission. I don't feel I broke any laws. Did I? What laws apply to privacy between married couples?

Re: Email privacy

I have been practicing law in Minnesota for 25 years and have never heard of a spouse being criminally prosecuted for reading another spouses mail, electronic or otherwise. If there are laws against it, and there might be, I have never ever seen them enforced.

Good luck.
