Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
How do I find a lawyer to represent me? I am the obligor and I am wanting to start a Motion to Modify a child support order. At the time the order was established I lived in Hennepin county. After my divorce I moved to TX, joined the Army and now live in WA. I have called a few lawyers in MN but they refuse to help me because I'm not a resident. I am hesitant to find a WA lawyer cause I dont know how well they will know MN laws. What is my next step?

I can certainly assist you.. However, I would need to know much more about he case. I would also need to see the last child support order entered. The critical issue is to determine whether e substantial change of circumstance has occurred since the last order. That requires a review of your income, the other parent's income and any other changes including non-joint children.
Prior reply is inaccurate and should be discounted. Attorneys here are NOT to solicit clients. I suggest you simply make a few more phone calls and choose an attorney. I suggest you select a very well experienced attorney, one with years of professional experience. In my practice, it is not uncommon for me to have client who reside in some more remote area of MN, or outside of the State of MN, including being out of the country. Be wary of free advice. Best to you.
