Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

friends of my family no longer can care for there children they want my family who is not biologicly related to the children to adopt them .does the biological family of these children have any right to protest or stop adoption and would we have to get rights severed from example biological grandparents or aunts/uncles of children and would the courts consider them before my family. I should also add that the parents of these children DO NOT want them to go to any memeber of their biological family

I have a special place in my heart for families who open their homes to what I call "bonus" children. I have had three bonus children - not foster children and not blood relatives - children of friends who need a home to get a better start in life.

Even though you are not "kin" a good resource is the Minnesota Kinship Caregiver Association:

Also, you may want to consider a third-party custody action instead of an adoption, but I strongly recommend you sit down with an experienced family law and adoption attorney to review your options.

Finally, sometimes you just start with a Delegation of Parental Authority

& start living your lives as if you already have custody. The longer the children are with you the better.

Good Luck!
