Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
My friends husband is not paying the bills. My friend thinks if she removes her name from the joint checking account, that she will no be liable for any of her husbands bills. He is ill and she thinks he is going to die and leave her a pile of unpaid bills. Will taking her name off that account help her?

I am afraid that whose name is on the bank account has no relationship to whether or not one spouse may be held accountable to a creditor on a debt that is due. The responsibililty for debt is determined by contract alone.
