Grand children

i have two grand kids living with me they are 16 & 17 they made this choice on there own the problem is they recieve ss benifits from there deceased father and i don't have legal guardianship of them how do i go about getting this ? the money is for there education and i don't think there mom is sending me the full amount . the one boy i'm not worried about he turns 18 in a month the other one has 2 years to go so my ? is can i get legal guardianship and how do i go about doing this

You would probably not want to do a guardianship. You would proceed in family court for custody.

You might not need to bother, however, if what you are concerned about is the social security benefits. Those go to whoever the children are living with regardless of who has legal custody - at least that's the way it was last time I checked. If you contact the social security administration you may be able to get the payments transferred to you.
