Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
I was just granted custody of my 2 daughters on July 15, 2012. I was granted Sole Physical Custody and joint legal custody. I don't think my ex wife knows exactly what joint legal custody is. In the custody papers signed by the judge she states that the children will go to school where I (Father) live, We are getting ready to buy a house 10 miles away.
My ex is trying to block the transfer of schools saying she wants the children to stay at same school. It would be unrealistic for me to drive them 20 miles to school everyday when the new school is 1 mile away. Does she have a right as only joint legal custody to tell me where the kids go to school and demand I tell her everything that goes on in the daily life?

Yes. Joint legal custody means important decisions such as school, medical care, and religion are jointly made. If you cannot reach an agreement, you may wish to try mediation or file a Motion with the court to have a Judge decide the matter. You certainly have strong arguments in that regard.
