Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

My ex and her husband want to adopt my children. My children have not wanted to see me for about 3 years and they supposedly asked to be adopted by their stepfather. Is there anything that I need to be aware of before I sign the paperwork to release my legal rights as their father. I also want to make sure that when the adoption goes through I am no longer financially responsible for them. Does the decree from the judge finalize everything or do I need to hire legal representation?

A Termination of Parental Rights and Step Parent Adoption is not a simple action. While you may no longer be obligated for ongoing child support, you would remain obligated on any child support arrears unless a resolution of those arrears is negotiated.
