Joint Custody-Mother leaves state

I have a 15 month old son with my ex-girlfriend. We both live in Minnesota. She wants to leave to live with relatives in Ohio. If I let her take our son, do my rights change once she is domiciled in Ohio? We are quite amicable in our situation so we have not put anything down in a court document. Do we need to do that?

It makes a big difference if she leaves the State and you have failed to put down your parenting schedule and financial agreements in writing. After six months of living in Ohio, that State would become the home State for child and if you ever had to go to court after that, you would have to do it in Ohio (because you never filed any papers in Minnesota before she left).
