Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

I only have joint legal custody and my son's dad has full physical custody. Would it be so hard to go back to the courts and get joint physical custody? If so why?

Whether you will be awarded joint custody depends on what is in the best interest of the child. The court determines what is in the child best by evaluating various factors. It would be hard to get joint custody if the factors pointed against joint custody. You did not mention what your current parenting time is, but perhaps this could be increased even if you do not get joint custody. You will need to modify the custody order if you want to proceed.
