Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Liability after divorce

By divorce decree my Ex wife is awarded a auto,It still has a lien against it.So therefore I cannot get my name off the title. She also has not been insured.

Would I be liable in case of a lawsuit caused by an accident. How can I avoid this from happening, and protect myself?

Re: Liability after divorce

You can get your name off of the title pursuant to the divorce decree. If the bank won't agree to take your name off of the loan, you may have to take your ex back to court. You can ask the Judge to order her to refinance the loan or do something to remove your name, including selling the car, if you can prove that she is falling behind with the payments. Also, if your name is still on the loan, you can tell the bank that she has no insurance. The Bank would definitely want to know.
