Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
Parents obligation to pay extra-curricular activity fees, etc
Ive been divorced 9 months. I have full physical custody of our 3 children. He sees them every other weekend. I do receive a small child support he has 2 older children from another marriage. During the marriage, our children attended several camps/extracurricular activities, all with a fee. Now, my ex insists that he doesnt have to pay anything other than child support, which barely pays for necessities. I dont want to take away the extracurricular activities, but unless I can get him to help out, I will be forced to do so. I look ahead band instruments, drivers Ed, car insurance, class trips, senior pics, invites, college! Its terrifying! I am wearing myself thin working 3 jobs & still not making ends meet. He will not help pay for any of it! Are there any laws that require him to pay for half of these expenses? Keep in mind the children were attending these things prior to the separation and divorce.

Re: Parents obligation to pay extra-curricular activity fees, etc
The additional costs associated with the children's extracurricular activities should have been addressed as part of the divorce. If they were not, you may have a problem since any new motion relating to expenses may only be addressed if there is a substantial chage in circumstance. In short the costs must have increased significantly.
