Question about Medical Assistance
I have a child with a woman that I was never married to. I pay child support through a court order that was set up with the help of my attorney. According to the court order I am not required to provide heath insaurance for the child. The child has serious medical conditions and exceeds $100,000 in medical bills a year. The child is on medical assistance, but the state is billing me for the bills that are left after M.A. has maxed out. Can I be held responsible for these bills, even considering the court order in place?

Re: Question about Medical Assistance
You need to meet with an attorney and have every piece of paper you have ever received about this gone over. It's a tricky business and various facts and circumstances can make a big difference.
That having been said, I expect that they can bill you regardless of the court order. Your status as father of the child can generate liabilities outside of the court order. For example, if the child dies, you can be stuck with funeral expenses.
I am sure, however, that this involves a large sum of money - and you would be making a big mistake to rely on an anwer given here by someone who knows nothing of your circumstances and who has not seen any of the paperwork.
Like I said, at least do a consult. My consult fee would be $150. My number: 952-544-6356.
