Re: rights with full custody
A parent who does not have legal or physical custody is still entitled to record access under Minnesota Statutes. Specifically, the statute allows for the following:
Access to Information. Pursuant to Minn. Stat., 518.17, subdivision 3,notice is hereby given to the parties:
- Medical Care and Medical Records. Each party has the right of access to, and to receive copies of medical, dental, orthodontic, optometric and any other medical or psychological or counseling records and information regarding the minor child(ren). Presentation of a copy of the order to the custodian of a record, or other information, regarding the minor child(ren) constitutes sufficient authorization for the release of the record or information to the
requesting party.
- School and School Records. Each party shall keep the other party informed as to the name and address of the school the minor child(ren) is/are attending. Each party has the right to be informed by school officials about the child(ren)'s welfare, education progress/status, school events, and the scheduling of parent/teacher conferences. The school is not required to hold a separate conference
for each party. Each party has the right of access to, and to receive copies of any school, daycare or religious information, records, report
cards or other materials related to the minor child(ren).
- Accident or Illness. In case of an accident or illness of the minor child(ren), each party shall notify the other party of the accident or
illness, the name of the health care provider, and the place of treatment.
Re: rights with full custody
There is a statute in Minnesota that gives him a right to school and medical information about his children, even if all he has is visitation rights. Yes he has a right to the info, unless there is a specific court order restricting it.
