Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Does someone serving legal papers in Minnesota have to hand them to the respondent, or can they set them down near them, like on a table? Do they have to verbalize anything like their name, for confirmation, or say, "This is for you."?

The process server is going to have to fill out the Affidavit of Personal Service. See MN Judicial Branch web site for the form. The server should attempt to hand the documents to the defendant and inform him of the contents. If the server just slides the documents on the table without saying anything the defendant may argue that he had no idea they were for him. Then you may have to go through it again.
