Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Over ten years ago, I was in prison and the minnesota courts appointed me the father of a child; I have never met this child and am being told I have to pay thousands of dollars if I don't want to go to jail. I have doubts that I am actually the biological father, but the courts say it's too late for a DNA test and that they are within their right. Even if they are within THEIR rights, wouldn't be within MY rights to know whether or not I am the father? And if I turn out not to be, shouldn't they be forced to leave me alone?
