Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
I was thinking about hiring a lawyer for $125 an hour. This may sound confusing but is that cost per hour only for when I meet with my lawyer and during court? if my lawyer was working on something for my case on her own and she said she was doing it for like 6 hours and tried chraging me $900 dollars (but i never really knew if she was making it up or not), do they charge that time too?

You should review the Fee Agreement with your attorney so that you know when and for what your attorney can charge you. Typically, however, whenever the attorney works on your case, the attorney can charge you. An attorney can do a lot of work on a case without meeting with you or appearing in court. For instance, there are legal documents that usually are drafted and some of those can take a long time. An attorney can charge for the time it takes to draft those documents.
Your fee agreement indicates what is charged. However, generally your attorney will charge for things that occur in court, preparing for court, speaking with you, exchanging emails and anything involving your case.
