Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota
Wife and I are in the process of Divorce and have our hearing set for 08/29. We filed a joint petition for dissoution, agreed to all the terms and to all the debts and assets. We also did not want either to pay child support. However since then, she filed for Medical Assistance, Housing Assistance, and Daycare Assistance. I make $2654 per month FT and she makes $965 per month PT. I kept house and pay for childs medical and dental insurance. She bought a car, and rents an apt. After all my expenses, I have maybe $10 to my name.
Will I be forced to pay Child Support since she has applied for assistance?

If public assistance is paid in any form, the State must be a party to any child support determinations and child support will be required based on child support guidelines to allow the State reimbursement for funds expended.
