Legal Question in Family Law in Minnesota

Will a new relationship affect my divorce?

After years of trying unsuccessfully to save our marriage, my husband and I split up. He now lives in a one bedroom apartment and I live in our three bedroom house with our two children. We have not started the divorce process yet. I plan to get legal aide when the application process is opened. I quit my job just days before we split up. My real concern is that about a month after we split up I started a relationship with my high school sweetheart. I've been shunned by my husbands family understandably, i guess, but no one knows what happened in our relationship. Will this new relationship affect my divorce? I don't bring him around my children very often and when I do, it is always casual, a day at the park, or to a restaurant for lunch. I know my husband will try to use this against me. Am I worried for nothing?

Re: Will a new relationship affect my divorce?

No. It is something you should worry about. In all custody cases, bringing other third parties into the lives of the children is a relevant line of inquiry. Please contact me if you would like to meet to discuss this matter further. 952-746-4111
