Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota
attorney sold me out
I was involved in a civil case and hired an attorney to help me with discovery, interrogatory answers. After I gave him my notarized answers, I asked him to add infor I missed on one of the answers. The attorney added this info but also added other info without my permission. He then submitted this with the notary signature. Is it legal to directly add into a document that's been notarized or was the attorney supposed to add the info as an addendum to the original interrogatory? I did't know about it until after the case and I asked for a copy. I was shocked, to say the least.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Based on the facts you've outlined, what the attorney did was improper, to say the least. The website for filing a disciplinary complaint is as follows (you may need to copy and paste this into your browser): http://www.courts.state.mn.us/lprb/index.asp?content=menucomplaint
If you believe what the attorney did caused you damage, you may have a professional malpractice claim (I do not handle those kinds of cases). The threshold for winning such cases is quite high, however. You would have to prove that the attorney departed from the standard of care AND that but for the departure, your case would have turned out differently.
