Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

I am being charged with a crime that I didnot commit, last Mothers day my son in law dumpted his hot charcoal down the sewer.....police officer pulled up....because I could not give information...phone, or address because they were homeless and cell phones disconected.....the police officer thought I was lying. MY daughter and her husband will not take responsibility.....How am I to handle this in court, I donot want to pay a lawyer, this will set us behind in our finances.......besides I didnot do this I have my husband and two young boys ages 8 and 6
