Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota
living arangements between boyfriend girlfriend
My daughter just broke up with her boyfriend. They had an appartment together. Shortly after she moved out she lost her job and he paid for most of the bills for a while and gave her spending money. Recently they broke up and now he is trying to make her life a living hell. His mother and he are calling her and telling her that they are going to sue her for thousands of dollars that she owes them. She gave him her checks during the time that she was working and helped pay what she could. At no time was any money considered a loan. About half of the time they were living together she was unemployed. He bought her a car as well, but she gave him some of the money to pay for the car. The car was only $1400. and it turned out to be a piece of crap. He demanded the car back the day that he moved out and she gave it to him. He is threating to sue her for back rent bills and the car. If they lived together, and at no time was any money giving as a loan can they really sue her for bills that he has paid? They only lived together 3 months.

There is no "palimony" in MN without a written agreement, so he is probably out of luck without some proof that money was lent.
