Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota
Minnesota statute 604.14
section 1: civil liability for theft
I have trouble with the wording on this. A friend of mine signed a restitution note for $400 to his employer due to cash theft. Is cash considered personal property here, are they legally able to charge him $800? He only signed that he would pay $400, there was absolutely no mention of punitive damages, fees, or extra charges when he made the agreement.
