Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota
settlement
I settled ''off the record in court'' this week and regret it. The judge acted as mediator and I represented myself.Trustingly I settled to get the case over as I live out of state. It was a small case 7500 and settled for 3000. so I wouldn't have to postpone it and come back. I was not informed of any potential further coast, but felt I had been ''had'' when I heard the judge and opposing party laughing prior to returning from the consult room to go back on the record to confirm the settlement with prejudice. I started to look up info on return and now worried they will try to stick me with their attorney fee. Can I do anything about it? Would a judge lead you unknowingly to further harm yourself?

Re: settlement
The facts you proovide don't establish any impropriaty of the judge or opposing atty or party. There may be options available to "undo" a settlement or order/judgment, but a detailed factual review would be needed to advise you of options and liklihood of success and legal expenses involved.
Re: settlement
Don't be ridiculous. The parties normally know each other and the judge and there is nothing unusual about one of the lawyers having a good, friendly relationship with the judge. You will not have to pay any attorneys fee if you did not agree to it. Also, in life, make decisions and go forward. Put it behind you. William S. Stern

Was there a court reporter? It might be worthwhile to get a transcript./
Was there a written settlement?
