Spelling of name changes

I would like to have the spelling of my first name changed.

I would like to change just one letter to make it a little less common. Is it necessary for me to actually go through the procedures of a formal name change in this instance? If not, please tell me how to get this accomplished. Thank you. N

P.S. I have already been using the new spelling on most of documents with work, mortgage etc. for 18years.
