Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota
Can I sue my father's murderer for wrongful death? I was 12 at the time. I wasn't included with anything. I am now 21 years old and I have the means to sue. She made false accusations against my father. She also only received 7 years and now is on parole. She claimed abuse and while she was in she got her degree.

Hello. I am sorry for your loss of your father. I urge you immediately to confer privately with an attorney about your rights and options. In the vast majority of legal issues there is a 'statute of limitations' to initiating a legal action. The statute of limitations is defined as the maximum length of time in which a person may initiate a legal action (a lawsuit, legal proceeding). Note that the statute of limitations may be 'tolled' (meaning, paused, delayed, suspended) in certain instances, for example, for the time the potential claimant is a minor. The attorney will discuss the matter in details and advise you on your rights; there may well be more than one possible path of action for you. It is urgent that you seek private legal counsel with no delay, because, by delay you may forever lose certain rights. I recommend that you telephone several attorneys in selecting one attorney to assist you, because it is important that you feel comfortable with the attorney you choose. All the best to you.
