Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Minnesota

Didn't transfer automobile title - Lost it. Can't reach seller.

Bought a car from a private party for my minor son. Car is in sellers brothers name. Brother has signed the title. 8pm DMV closed. Signed title is plain white envelope in glove box. Son and freind promptly clean out car. Friend throws away white envelope. Title lost.

Seller informed by phone. Says he will apply for duplicate title and repeat transfer when it arrives. Six months have passed. Car sits gathering cobwebs in garage. Seller now won't answer our calls and doesn't respond to voicemails. I don't know why. He does not dispute the sale. I only have his cell phone number and his parents address and phone. I don't know his address. I picked up the car at his parents house. I called his parents and they are sympathetic but don't want to be involved.

I have the $2400 cancelled cashiers check cashed by the seller that I paid for the car with, but no other reciept. No memo on the check. What are my options?

You're going to need to go to the DMV and either submit an affidavit of lost title or get the seller's ccoperation (perhaps with the aid of an attorney).

Call or e-mail for further assistance.
