Legal Question in Immigration Law in Minnesota
I'm going to a college as an international student with F1 visa. I participated in a medical research as a subject and received $1200 compensation. The study was controlled study of new drug for quitting smoking and antidepressant. It lasted for 3 weeks. Each week, I basically took medicine once and the staff did a lot of blood drawing over 1 1/2 day of stay in the facility. I also had two returns/follow-up blood draw each week. Recently, I recieved 1099 MISC form from the medical research company and the $1200 was listed as "other income". Is it considered an unauthorized employment? Will I lose F1 students' rights, such as eligibility to apply for OPT or going to Grad School? What should I do to avoid cancellation of my F1 status

Hello:
An argument can be made that it was not 'work'. In that case, you would not have violated your status. However, USCIS may disagree and that would be when it may become necessary to file a Motion to get Reinstated.
