Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Minnesota

Proprietary blends

I am about to begin marketing a pill which consists of 6 naturally ocurring compounds, and I have seen the words proprietary blend instead of ingredients on some other similar products. What is a "proprietary blend", what does it cost to get one, and what are the requirements. I would like to be able to protect my recipe if it is at all possible. Thank you.

Re: Proprietary blends

"proprietary blend" could refer to a couple of different things....one is that the blend or composition is patented or currently on file in the US Patent Office...another meaning could be that the "propietary blend" is a trade secret meaning that the composition and its components is not being disclosed but is "held" internally within the company and safeguards have been taken to protect the very nature of the composition....a good example of a propietary blend that has been protected by trade secrets is "coca cola"...a patent application may be filed for compositions and you should consult a patent attorney regarding the same.
