please answer my question

ok when i first got offered the job that i was at i told them that i had been convicted of a Gross Misdemeaner Terroristic Threats and they told me dont worry about it just dont tell the company about it than after a month later they asked me to come in and fill out a background check so i did and then a week later they called me and told me they had to let me go because i failed my background check for the charge that i told them about in the begining i was working for a temp service is this against the law for them to do this can you please let me know and let me know the statute of this law thank you very much for your time and advice.
