Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Employment - consulting firm claiming tax issues as reason to ask me to quit

My consulting firm previously accepted a telecommuting proposal to allow me to work from europe while finishing a masters degree. our client is aware of and supportive of this arrangement, and nothing has changed with how my job is performed. recently they cited a tax issue as reason for demanding i return, and when i said i couldn't, they are now trying to get me to sign with another firm who will in turn subcontract my services to them at a lower rate in order to keep the business with our client. what is the legality of this and is there any real tax issue to this arrangement?

I would need to review the written "proposal" to determine if a contract was created giving you greater rights than an at will employee or consultant. Otherwise, you have no guarantee of continued employment as an employee or otherwise.

Many companies want 3rd party employee leasing arrangements for this reason.

Call or email for representation.
