Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Pyschological exam to keep my current job

I've been employed as a manager in an engineering department for a number of years. I've received good performance appraisals. A few months ago my previous manager was let go and I now report to a different senior manager.

This sr manager initally gave me good feedback, but a few weeks ago he indicated that he had received negative comments about me from both the VP of HR and from others.

He has asked me to take a pyschological exam, then based on the results he will evaluate whether to place me on a 90 day improvement plan, which could lead to termination or demotion.

This is an ''at-will'' employment without a contract.

Question: Are there any laws that prevent requiring an exam to keep ones existing position?

I would need to obtain more details about your job and past performance.

I assume it is non-union. Is the psych test a routine screening device for other employees? If not it may be unlawful, depending on the basis for administering it. Strict HIPPAA requirements may actually prohibit disclosure of any test administered.
