Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

Salary Confidentiality

I was recently promoted to swing manager at a fast food resturant. My store manager told me before the promotion that if i did not want to work weekends i would not be required to. However, now that i have become manager i have been told that the other swing managers do not feel it is fair that i do not work weekends, and ''it came up'' that they do not feel i should be making the amount i'm making if i do not work weekends (they have access to my personal information and can see what i am making). Therefore i was told that i would not recieve my scheduled 6 month raise in either april or october of this year ''not that i dont deserve it, but because it will cause waves with the other managers''. So my question is: is it legal for the store manager to discuss my salary and raise with other employees? Also, is it legal for her to deny me a raise that i, by her own admission, deserve because it will upset other employees?

Re: Salary Confidentiality

I agree that unless in a supervisory position, your salary is not available to other employees or managers.

You may have a claim for breach of contract as well. Assume your are NOT union. Call or email for further assistance.
