Legal Question in Employment Law in Minnesota

wrongful termination

I was fired a month ago for stealing from the place I had worked for for over 2 years. I never did steal and they made me look awful in front of many customers and employees. Is there anything I can do?

Re: wrongful termination

You have several potential bases for bringing a lawsuit, including the following:

1) Wrongful Discharge

2) Defamation of Character

3) Breach of Employment contract

4) Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress

5) Violation of Privacy Rights

Depending on the state of the written and testimonial evidence, you may have a case to bring against your former employer.

Yes, there are some things you can do. First apply for

unemployment and if necessary, challenge any argument by the

employer that you were fired for misconduct. If you have any

witnesses, get statements from them.

This may be defamation--you would need to show that they were

telling falsehoods about you to third parties and that it damaged

your reputation. Again, you will need to gather witness statements

to help show that it happened the way you state it happened.

We do a free initial consultation regarding other steps you might

take. Please contact Sue Chambers in our office if you want to set up an appointment.
