Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota
Can an apartment owner charge me first and last month's rent to be added to my girlfriend's lease? My credit is in the 640's, no rental history, and I have about $1,600 in collections. Keep in mind, my girlfriend has had no problem paying the rent on her own.

The LL is now entering into a new contract with a new Tenant ( YOU) and creating new risk of non-payment, damages, etc.
It is NEGOTIABLE, but there is no law REQUIRING that the LL take a big risk on your credit, therefore the 1st and Last Month's rent etc.
You don't have to agree. But the final decision belongs to the person who OWNS the property.
