Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota
Breaking leases
I recently relocated to Minnesota for employment. I signed a one year lease at an apartment complex, but now the company I work for may relocate to a different state, forcing me to break my lease. Am I protected under any laws because of the situation, or am I required to honor the full lease? Is my company required to buy-out my lease?

Re: Breaking leases
I would have to review your lease to advise you, but generally, I would start by bringing the situation to the attention of your landlord or leasing company, and see if they would be willing to re-lease your unit, perhaps with your assistance ( and paying for newspaper ad etc).
If that is unsuccessful, let your employer know of your cost, and see if they would cover it, in addition to the cost of moving you.
