Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

Fridge in apartment quit working

Hi, my son rents an apartment. He came home for the weekend and when he got back home his fridge had quit working. He lost about $75.00 worth of food. He contacted his landlord about it and he said in a very nasty tone, THAT IS WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE RENTERS INSURANCE. I believe that it is the landlords problem since it is his refrigerator that quit working. I am anxious to recieve an answer about this and what he can do. Thank You

It is indeed the LL's responsibility to provide a WORKING refridgerator (if one was provided from the beginning of the tenancy).

He should cover the cost of damaged food.
