Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota
Hello,
My friend and I signed a lease to move into a duplex with a landlord. Three days later I found out I was losing my job due to economic reasons with our company. Unfortunately I would then not be able to afford rent until I found a new job. The landlord kept our security deposit and is going to rent out the apartment the following month after we would have lived there.
Since the landlord found someone new to move into my spot, is there anyway I should be able to get my security deposit back?
Thank you,
Jeremy

If your lease indicated that the security depeosit could be reqained for any breach of the lease, it is not recoverable Moreover, the landlord can also retain any portion attributable to the costs of relisting the property and acquiring a renter. Given the fact that you breached the lease, chances of recovery of the security deposit are not strong.
