Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

house fire

I was living in my friend's house with no lease and no renters insurance,

but paying rent on time for three years. The house was a total loss due

to a fire caused by faulty wiring. The owners of the house collected

insurance money for the house and possesions. The owners had no

possessions in the house besides kitchen appliances. They claimed my

possessions as theirs and received a phat chunk of cash, promising to

recoup some of my loss. I have yet to see a dime. Am I entitled to any

legal recourse?

Re: house fire

How did you learn they claimed your items as theirs?

If they did it was insurance fraud.

Did the claims investigators talk to you?

You would not be entitled to claim under their policy as a renter normally.

I would need to see their policy (via subpoena) to determine if you had any basis for recovery.
