Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota

Lease payment due to new job relocation

My husband is the sole provider of our financial income. His job entales building pools and road constrution in various locations. He is being transferred to Hawaii for expected projects this coming winter, and our lease has 6 months left. Are there any penalties to terminate a lease for uncontrolable circumstances?

Re: Lease payment due to new job relocation

I would need to review your lease to advise, but as a MN Landlord for 28 years, I would state that no circumstances are uncontrollable.

You may be able to negotiate a buy out, or sublease the unit.

If you go to the LL with a plan and a proposal ( such as offering to advertise and show the unit ) you may be able to get out relatively unscathed. You must take action however. If you just leave/vacate, you will be exposed to liability, and the LL will win.
