Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Minnesota
Transferring Lease to new Owners of Building
I own a business. Renting out the front half of a building. I pay $850 plus 40% Utilites. The building was for sale at the time of rental and I was told the back half being twice as big was $900 plus 60% utilities. I still choose the front because it was on the street. I find out the person who rents the back half now is only paying $595 a month! If knowing this I would have taken it. Because now my business is growing and I need the space. The building has finally sold and the new owners sent a letter saying they will honor the current lease. Do I have any way of signing a new lease with these owners? Does my lease just automatically transfer? I feel I have been lied to by the real estate agent. I honestly do not want to stay now in this building. Would it be wise to call the Better Business Bureau? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Transferring Lease to new Owners of Building
I would need to see your lease to advise you.
The situation may also be affected by an attornment clause in the sale documents between buyer and seller.
